AN EVENING OUT OF AFRICA....

An Evening Out of Africa takes place at The Cobden Club this Saturday to raise money for charity Angels International.

The wild night is put on by events company Gumption Productions and whilst the company is small and the charity is tiny, this will be one of the biggest nights of the summer, raising pots of cash for 2 under-funded hospitals in Malawi.

DJ's Gaz Mayall (Gaz's Rockin Blues), Nick Feel, LondOntheInside favourite Mikey Spider (@MikeySpider) and Tara Rocks amongst others promise to have guests swinging from the canopy (literally, in The Jungle Hall).

While sultry songsters Danny Pratt and Oli Wennick will have the girls swooning, break-out band The Colour Movement are keeping things lively with their eclectic mix of smartly disheveled catchy tunes.

There is a complimentary cocktail reception sponsored by Crowns and canapes and bar nibbles included.

Have fun, do good!

Tickets £35 available here.

FILMS ON FRIDGES

East London has always been the most creative part of the city, but they have excelled themselves this time with this Summer’s upcoming Films on Fridges. East London’s newest temporary cinema is built primarily out of discarded kitchen appliances that many people will remember previously occupying the site of the new Olympic stadium. The old mountain of fridges became a 20-foot tall local landmark and it was the disappearance of the fridges that inspired this event.

In celebration of next year’s Olympics, the cinema will screen films around the theme of athletics and sports. Upcoming showings include the original ‘Rocky’, the greatest football film of all time ‘Escape to Victory’ and everybody’s favourite underdog bobsleigh team, ‘Cool Runnings’. The festival ends with perhaps the most iconic and inspiring sports film of all time, ‘Chariots of Fire’.

Films on Fridges can be found in East London's Fish Island, a short discus throw from the Olympic Park (E3 2NT). For transport, the nearest station is Hackney Wick but the area is well served with buses. Rain or shine, doors open at 8pm and films start at 9pm. All tickets are £10 each and available from wegottickets.com.

MUSIC & MAKERS MARKET @ QUEEN OF HOXTON

Coming up this Saturday July 9th is the rooftop Music & Makers fete at the Queen of Hoxton with something for everyone – vintage clothes, cupcakes, hula hooping, arts, crafts, games....did we say hula hooping?  The ground floor hosts a record fair with a ‘hear before you buy’ policy – and the records played by the DJs are available to buy. Sets will be coming from Pyschemagik, Stevie Kotey, Soft Rocks and Cherrystones.

KnickerRocker Glory have handpicked a selection of stall holders and traditional village fete games to ensure you don’t leave the Queen empty handed. The hula hooping is hosted by Hoola Fest, while the Freerange Tie Dye girls will bring their interactive custom clothes workshop to the market. The KnickerRocker vintage bargain bin will undoubtedly throw up some treats; while Emily Griffin’s crafts and patchworks are available to help adorn your living space.

The day all kicks off at 11am and finishes at 6pm, but the evening will no doubt be as debauched as only the Queen of Hoxton can. Entry is free, so what’s your excuse?
