EAST END FILM FESTIVAL...

Tomorrow sees the start of the spectacular East End Film festival which runs until 2nd May. With the emphasis on emerging talent and supporting film makers there is a whole scope of activities; workshops, screenings, music and films are on offer over the duration of the five day event. We’d recommend catching the Roger Sargent Exhibition tomorrow at Spitalfields Market from 12pm. Roger Sargent's documentary THE LIBERTINES – THERE ARE NO INNOCENT BYSTANDERS on the reunion of the infamous indie band last year will be played on the opening night at the Troxy. Check out the programme for more details, well worth a visit.

THE STAG, HAMPSTEAD HEATH

As the sun continues to shine our hunt for the best beer garden in London goes on and on and on - It’s a hard job but somebody has to do it! No London beer garden list should be complete without a mention of The Stag at Hampstead Heath.

The beer garden is at the back of the pub and is very private possibly the reason the pub attracts a host of celebs a certain Mr Gallagher is a regular. There are picnic tables and private cabanas which can be reserved for groups.

During the summer the pub hosts garden parties, acoustic music and a monster BBQ. Sunday arvo is the best time to visit although it is pretty busy all week long. If you are around this Sunday May 1st check out the May Day Garden party with BBQ, mini-beer fest, four live music acts and DJ. Entry is FREE but make sure you sample some food, seriously it would be wrong not to!

THE QUEEN OF HOXTON...

It's the time of year when the sun is starting to appear from his winter hibernation, and all over London, people are asking the same question: Just where is the best beer garden in town? Drinking outdoors is one of the highlights of spring and summer, especially with four bank holidays coming up in the next few weeks!

The Queen of Hoxton have recently relaunched their rooftop terrace. Located on on the Shoreditch border and with panoramic views of the City as far as Canary Wharf, it couldn't be better positioned. The area itself resembles a suburban garden, with fake grass and patio furniture, a huge centrepiece fountain surrounded by treliss and traditional garden fence but with the twist of psychedelic murals. Even the toilets are in individual potting sheds! This is a big improvements - having to run downstairs for the toilet was a nightmare, so having them on the roof makes sense.

The roof bar is also in a shed but the real highlight is the monster barbecue, the size of the grill would put most restaurants to shame. The food was great quality too, the burgers are made from ground beef by hand to order, and served with homemade couscous and salad, posher than your usual BBQ grub! And in Shoreditch? What would the politician's say?

For summer the bar will host a Rooftop Film Club, showing classic and cult films in the open air. Scheduled to launch on June 1st, watch this space for more details!

PERRIER NIGHTS….

This week LondONtheInside went along to a special event hosted by Perrier water to celebrate the history of cocktails and if there’s one thing we like it’s cocktails!

The night started with spiced apple martinis (tres bien!) before we were taken on a tour through the 1900s with Dr Perrier himself, come to think of it he must have been pretty old!

After a brief encounter of the 70s the tour ended in the present where we were treated to a demonstration by mixologist Laurent Greco. Possibly our favourite part learning how to make frog spawn from cassis and powder - definitely a party trick we’ll be trying at home. We also picked up some tips on how to make cocktails using sparking perrier, always a bonus as it has far less calories than most mixers!

If you fancy making your own perrier cocktails check out societeperrier.com for some inspiration!
