THE CADOGAN ARMS...

The Cadogan Arms is located on fashionable Kings Road. LondOntheInside went along to check out the pubs new pool package. The pub is owned by Tom & Ed who have many a good pub to their name including The Well and The Prince Arthur which we previously reviewed in our EAT section. Inside the pub has quite a country pub feel, with lots of taxidermy and wooden décor. We visited on a Saturday night and the pub was bustling with life.

The pool package is simple, £10 each for 1 hour of pool, food and a drink including a glass or wine of bottle of beer. We dived straight in and were taken upstairs where the games began! It was intense, we battled it out, both determined not to let the other one win. Then we were interrupted by the food – a wooden board filled with mini treats, burgers, fish and chips and sausage rolls were present before us and somehow we lost concentration in the game….

The food was good – hot, fresh and enough for two,  sometimes these ‘deals’ mean you find yourself with half a portion. This wasn’t the case.

Food done it was back to the game and sadly the boy won…..Better luck next time!

The Cadogan Arms Billiards room is also available for private hire and would make the perfect venue for a party. We suggest you try out the pool package, it's great value. We’ll be back, we have a score to settle.

THE SHAKESPEARE...

Ok, ok we maybe bias, it is our local after all but we heart The Shakespeare! Located on Allen Road The Shakespeare looks like it hasn’t seen a paint brush since the 70s which only adds to its charm. There is plenty of wood about, the floor, walls, bar and chairs which give it a proper pub feel. The pub is busy Monday to Sunday, day and night with a mixture of young and old punters, it has a real buzz to it whenever you visit.

They don’t serve food but there is a pizza shop next door which serve stone baked restaurant style pizzas that you can bring into the pub.

With heaps of bikes always parked outside, you can’t miss it. The pub quiz on a Monday is a little too serious for our liking but it's definitely worth a detour from Church Street….

THE CORNERSHOP...

LondOntheInside went along to The Cornershop, Shoreditch’s newest bar on Saturday night and to be honest we weren’t impressed. The place looks half finished, half bar, half eatery, half seats, half empty spaces… we are not really sure it even knows what it is. Other than a lick of paint nothing else seems to have changed, the toilets are still rank and all of the draft was off, which meant drinking expensive bottles….

This places gets a big thumbs down. We are all for trying somewhere new but we have tried it so you don’t have to!

WHO STOLE MY COAT?

Ever wondered where that coat ended up you thought you lost down the local? Well it seems we have had a serial clothes smuggler in our midst for over 10 years! Mike Ballard moved to London in 1998, the same year his favourite 55DSL jacket was stolen from a crowded pub. Ballard never got over this crime and seeked revenge on every pub in London stealing nearly 200 coats, all of which resembled his prized possession.

Now it seems he has seen the errors of his ways and he is trying to rehabilitate himself as part of a self-imposed therapeutic process. Ballard is offering owners the right to claim back their stolen coats. Just head along to the address below, tell him what was in your pockets or the time and location of the crime and he will happily hand it over.

Speaking about his work, Ballard admits, “I’m not proud about what I’ve done, and I realise that I need to make amends and return the coats to their rightful owners.” Appropriation has long been present in the art world, but never before has a show been constructed entirely out of stolen items. “I recognise the risk that comes with doing this show, but as Picasso once said, ‘Good artists copy, great artists steal’.”

So what are you waiting for? Go get your coat back!
