OLD BALD MAN IS THE TICKET TO BARGAIN VINTAGE RELIABLE BIKES

Regulars at London Fields may not have noticed the reserved grey balding one situated near the parks front gates at the Broadway Market entrance. He sits on the left in a deck chair quietly reading his paper, though just a few feet away he normally has with him a couple of rescued and restored vintage bikes.

These are all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. He is extremely friendly and genuine, these bikes are not stolen from anyone as he will tell you. He searches for unusable bikes and fixes them up so they can bring joy to someone new.

Selling at reasonable rates you can haggle him down if you dare, although once that old man grins I'm sure you won't have the heart to. Especially when he tells you that if there are any problems or you simply don't like the bike bring it back the next week and he will give you your money back (minus £5). A weeks guarantee! He also does repair jobs and can replace anything you need, so if you're ever in trouble bikewise, go see the man.

I bought my bike for £50 and haven't had any problems after 2 months of using it, considering its 30 years old that's pretty good going. Get there early (10am)as he usually sells out by 1pm.

Make sure you give him a nod and a smile next time you pass.

ADVENTURES IN ALIBI...

On Saturday LondOntheinside donned our dancing shoes and hit Alibi, currently the hottest club in East London. We arrived about 1am and didn’t know what to expect, we certainly didn’t expect a queue of one in one out but something’s are worth waiting for so we waited. It didn’t seem long before we were heading down the staircase into the black basement met by the sounds of banging techno music. Ok not our cup of tea but we were there to try it, so we headed straight to the bar.

The drinks were cheap for a club £10.30 for two pints and a wine and soda, not bad. The club itself is very dark and has about six separate rooms all of which are quite small. In one room there is a small stage, we watched two men dance their asses off for a good hour whilst strobe lights flashed and music pounded. It was all very fash, a little too fash for me and very NYC but this is exactly what the club sets out to achieve.

We watched the uber cool patrons strut to the music using all kinds of new age dance moves, things never seen before. We even spotted a guy wearing full Arabian cape, obviously the ‘king’ of Alibi. At 3am the lights came on and everybody continued the partying at the Moustache Bar and Bar 23. Not ones to quit we headed to Bar 23 to see what all the fuss was about, it was like a full on sweaty rave! We quickly made a back door run straight to the Turkish restaurant for Shish and Pide.

If your looking for ubercoolness and Fashion’east’ers then head to Alibi. We did and although we enjoyed the Saturday show next time we’ll check the listings first as Friday seems to be more our scene. This Friday Tom Furse (of The Horrors), Rodaidh (XL) and Hugo Paris (Django Django) spin Indie and Rock tunes. Sounds good to us!

Our little secret: Go there early, get a smokers stamp then head to the bars down Kingsland Road. When you go back flash your smokers stamp and avoid the queue! Ta da……

The Alibi. 91 Kingsland High St, London, E8 2PB. Free until 3am.

THE JERUSALEM TAVERN...

This small pub located in the heart of Clerkenwell, is the perfect place to go if your big on your beers and ales or if like us, you just like trying new things. The pub is stocked with a full range of St Peters Beers & Ales flavours include Christmas Ale, Summer Ale, Lemon ale, Grapefruit beer and all kinds of other flavours. They even stock Gluten free beer!

The building is from the 18th century and appears largely unchanged, going inside is like stepping back in time. You can imagine Charles Dickens types sat by the windows on the round wooden tables.

The punters are mainly those who work nearby and due to the size of the pub it can be hard to get a spot never mind a table. Worth a shot though, even if it’s just to work your way through the beers.

CHERRY COLA

Since starting in 2008 Cherry Cola has attracted the coolest kids from all over London. Named ‘the best rock and roll club in town’ by the London Paper and given the seal of approval by Dazed and Confused there is little wonder revelers travel across boroughs just to be there. This month sees it return after a short break, to its new home, The Macbeth in Hoxton. Yes that’s right the one where Winehouse’s hubby Blake assaulted someone outside.

The Cherry Cola website promises hot boys and sleazy girls as well as the best back catalogue of indie classics. Get there before 10pm and it is free or £5 after. There is also an after party until 5a.m in a different location, just around the corner but you need a Cherry Cola stamp to get in.

We’ll see you on the dance floor.

Friday 13th August, The Macbeth, Hoxton Street
